I've recently been bringing a lot of new servers online, and virtually every new machine utilizes some sort of multi-core configuration, although I'm including hp's dual-core PA-8900 in this, which doesn't really directly equate to other more modern processors such as the Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron Quad-core.
Most recently, I've been building the following types of servers:
hp9000 rp3440 - dual socket, dual-core PA-RISC PA-8900 series processors (dead processor line though), usually 4 to 8gb ram.
Dell 2950 - dual socket, either dual or quad core processors, up to 32gb ram.
Dell R905 - quad socket, dual or quad core processors, up to 256gb ram, but really limited to 128gb due to current memory chip availability.
Also semi-recent builds (last 2 years)
2x SuperDome Partitions - 16 processors per nPar
********** I'll come back to this post... maybe.
